Wollemia – Is the Latin form of the word Wollemi, the name of the National Park in New South Wales where the trees are found.
nobilis – A tribute name to David Noble who discovered the first stand of Wollemi Pines on an abseiling trip in 1994.
Wollemia nobilis is an evergreen tree reaching 25–40 m (80–130 feet) tall. The bark is unusual, dark brown and knobbly, like "bubbling chocolate". Most specimens are multi-trunked or appear as clumps of trunks, with some consisting of up to 100 stems of differing sizes.
